Evicting the PerpetratorA Male Survivor Guide to Recovery From Childhood Sexual Abuse Ken Singer MSW 9781929657469 Books

This is a remarkable book by a therapist with decades of experience working with men sexually abused as children and with men who sexually abuse children. From this unique experience and resulting wisdom, Singer provides many insights and avenues to recovery not found in other books. As he writes, "This book is about empowerment... The more you know about the abuse, how abusers work, and how they keep power over you through your fear and anger, the less likely they can continue to control you." The chapters on anger, disclosure and confrontation are particularly valuable, as are those on cycles of self-defeating behavior and how to become free of them. This is truly a book about how to "Take back your life and live it to the fullest."

Evicting the PerpetratorA Male Survivor Guide to Recovery From Childhood Sexual Abuse Ken Singer MSW 9781929657469 Books Reviews

What a great resource for not only survivors of childhood sexual abuse but also their partners, families, friends, as well as the providers who work with them (i.e., mental health professionals, physicians, dentists). As a psychologist who works with adolescent survivors of childhood sexual abuse, I found many of the concepts useful for the work I do including the five part process for writing a disclosure letter; the many powerful, and meaningful letters written by survivors, including the experiences of "Larry" and "Jake"; the distinction between forgiveness vs. letting go; the problems associated with chronic anger and victim stance issues; etc. Ken Singer does an excellent job describing the struggles commonly associated with childhood sexual abuse survivors AND sharing his years of clinical experience and insights for how to empower survivors to `evict the perpetrator' from their brain so they can go on to live productive and meaningful lives. Well done!
A male sex abuse victim will typically spend, not invest, SPEND, WASTE if you will, all of his life trying to eject and literally dispossess himself of his perpetrator and what feels like the perpetrator's irreparable damage. The abuser perpetually lives rent-free in the victim's mind, influencing, controlling, and continuously dulling every last ounce of his life. Childhood sexual abuse truly blurs and discolors every last facet of one's life. Healing seems like an illusion at best. There is that subtle feeling of doom--never will a male sex abuse victim erase this all-pervasive mark from his life.

Along comes Ken Singer with his eviction prescription and what a relief! There is light at the end of what seems like an endless tunnel of darkness--there is a fresh and uniquely different solution and it is found in Ken Singer's book. Singer's book addresses every area of the male sex abuse experience, from grooming the victim to the victim becoming a "survivor" and finally being able to resolve this issue and get on with a more fulfilling life. This book is not a "hop, skip, and a jump" bird's-eye view of what sometimes seems like an unpopular and even uncomfortable topic; it is a THOROUGH treatment of a deep and complicated issue and it explores just about every nook and cranny--it does not leave any stone unturned. Ken Singer does this in a logical, concrete, very detailed, and easy-to-understand manner that pretty much anyone can readily comprehend. This book is an eye-opener as it attempts to answer just about any questions or concerns a male victim may have about this issue and its resolution process. Furthermore, this book speaks to EVERYONE the victim, the survivor, the perpetrator, the therapist, the family, friends, partners, other professionals, e.g., doctors, nurses, dentists; it is appropriately and effectively all-inclusive while sustaining its primary focus. Additionally, this is an ALL-PURPOSE book it can be used strictly for reading, as a workbook, or as a "topics for discussion" book; it can even be utilized as a textbook for psychotherapists and other professionals who need quality education and sensitization to male sexual abuse; this is a reliable reference for anyone having various questions and wanting clear-cut and up-to-date answers.

I have known Ken Singer personally and professionally for many years. Ken Singer is a neat combination of a seasoned professional and a personable human being whose commitment to his work and whose capacity for empathy exceed that of the everyday treatment provider. I have personally witnessed Ken's expertise at work with various male sex abuse survivors as well as both juvenile and adult sex offenders I referred to him through the years. My confidence with these referrals was always validated via their positive and encouraging feedback about their treatment experiences. His book is unequivocally a confirmation of my great respect for him.

This book is a SINE QUA NON for any male sex abuse victim who seriously wants to address his issues, whether alone or with the help of a qualified therapist, and achieve survivorship. It is a "must read" for any mental health clinicians who are treating males who have been sexually misused in any way.

This book duly merits a 5-star EXCELLENT rating.
I have known an worked with Ken for years, this book is from a lifetime of work in the field. I highly recommend this book to anyone working within this field or a fellow survivor of abuse.

It goes a lot deeper into our minds & souls. It is a very triggering & powerful book.
But as for this boy/man whom had fell in genuine love with his male perpetrator i don't want to evict the only person whom had taken me under his wing. I adopted him to be the father that i never had nor seen, but had a sister 3 years younger than I.
I did evict my first perpetrator in life, my "mom." Whom abused her unwanted gay son emotionally, mentally, physically & sexually.
This is one of the best books I have read on male survivors of sexual assault. As a mother of a son who was molester for 10 years from the age of 6, I struggle with so many questions. Ken's book makes it very easy for me to understand what my son when through, his actions, the whys and the why not. Sometimes you need to know why something didn't happen or wasn't said just as much as you need to know why. While a parent will never clearly understand the hurt, pain and mental torture the male survivor went through and is still going through, Ken makes is so much easier to deal with and get through. The damage will always be there, it is the understanding and what you do with it that measures your future success. Ken takes you step by step through the process. Thank you Ken!
